1. Tell your child that you like to watch them swim.
Don’t coach or critique their performance. 2. Remember that the sport belongs to your child. Let them take ownership and responsibility for their success. 3. Make the atmosphere and experience fun. Don’t pressure them with unrealistic expectations or compare them to other swimmers. Olympic Swimming Used To Be For Men Only Swimming has been an Olympic sport since 1896 but it wasn’t until 1912 that women started to participate in this competitive sport at the Olympics.
We have created some fun & colourful cards to help parents & children know what is being worked on in each level. From Term 4, all students will receive a card for the level that they are enrolled in. These cards can be used to help encourage the young swimmer to work hard at completing each task.
Keep the card on your fridge or bring it along - it is up to you. The youngest worldchampion was 14. Ian Thorpe won the 400m men’s freestyle at age 14.
Some of you may know that in addition to our normal Holiday Intensive Holiday Program, we ran another Specialty Clinic with Olympic Coach - Brant Best! It was another huge success! We cannot thank Brant enough for his time and effort to fly down from Queensland just to share his expertise to patrons of KICK. We hope to be able to continue to bring more amazing mentors in the future. 1. Swimming is a great way to keep fit during winter
During winter, kids can get restless from not being able to run around and stay active because of the cold weather. Swimming is a great way to remain fit whilst being in an indoor environment. It’s also helps to keep those energy levels maintained without having to worry about being in the cold and wet weather. 2. Keep those winter bugs at bay Higher fitness levels gained through year-round swimming build stronger immune systems that make a child more resilient to stress and illness. Some parents withdraw their children from swimming classes when the temperature drops believing it will help to avoid illness. It is an old wives’ tale that children who have ‘wet hair’ or who ‘go out into the cold’ get sick. The reality is that children who exercise throughout winter are far less likely catch colds and flu. 3. It’s always warm at KICK Learn to Swim To keep kids and babies comfortable, we have a constant water temperature that ranges between 32-33 degrees. This means even on gloomy winter days, it’s always a nice day for a swim! |
