Water Familiarisation & Sensory Classes

Age: 3 months – 6 months
Duration: 30 minutes, 1 day per week for 5 weeks.
​Class size: Maximum of 5 babies with one instructor. Each baby must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Larger groups can be accommodated upon request. 

An introduction to the water, this class is available for 3–6-month-old babies. This fantastic 5-week program is designed to introduce little ones to the water and promote aquatic familiarisation and safety. Through gentle, interactive activities, your baby will have the opportunity to become comfortable in the water, while the parent also learns about important safety skills. Parents will also be educated about how inborn reflexes work and how they pertain to water along with preconditioning methods. The classes focus on building confidence and creating a positive association with swimming from an early age.

This is a completely free program, so it's the perfect chance to give your baby a head start on their aquatic journey. Spaces are limited, so be sure to sign up soon if you'd like to secure a spot. Can't wait to see your little one splashing around!  ​

Why do swimming classes with your bub?

What do we teach you and your baby
You and your baby will do activities focussed on sensory exploration. It will stimulate the babies' senses, allowing them to interact freely with the world that surrounds them.

• Floating front and back
• Familiarisation with water on their face. Songs and games that involve splashing and pouring water on babies' faces, that will prepare them to be submerged later
  
• The confidence to know what to do with your child in the water

• Familiarisation with different equipment such as noodles, mats, toys etc.
  
• Get to know your baby's cues, and teach them important keywords that will allow them to know what is going to happen next and be ready for it.

What to bring to your lesson

• Your SplashAbout Happy Nappy (The SplashAbout aqua nappy is compulsory for all babies.  They can be purchased at online stores, as well as at our pool.)
• A disposable aqua nappy for underneath (Yes, we require both nappies to be worn at the same time).
• Swimmers and a towel for the parent/guardian getting into the pool (often parents forget about themselves!)
• Warm clothes for after the class for your baby (and carer!)
• A snack for AFTER the lesson
