Some of you may know that in addition to our normal Holiday Intensive Holiday Program, we ran another Specialty Clinic with Olympic Coach - Brant Best! It was another huge success!  We cannot thank Brant enough for his time and effort to fly down from Queensland just to share his expertise to patrons of KICK.  We hope to be able to continue to bring more amazing mentors in the future. Thanks too, to Steve Alderman, for his contribution to the sessions and to David Pugh for running the underwater assessment camera and analysis from a physio point of view. #swimming #strokecorrection #olympiccoach #kicklearntoswim

3 Reasons to swim at KICK in term 3

1. Swimming is a great way to keep fit during winter
During winter, kids can get restless from not being able to run around and stay active because of the cold weather. Swimming is a great way to remain fit whilst being in an indoor environment. It’s also helps to keep those energy levels maintained without having to worry about being in the cold and wet weather.
2. Keep those winter bugs at bay
Higher fitness levels gained through year-round swimming build stronger immune systems that make a child more resilient to stress and illness. Some parents withdraw their children from swimming classes when the temperature drops believing it will help to avoid illness. It is an old wives’ tale that children who have ‘wet hair’ or who ‘go out into the cold’ get sick. The reality is that children who exercise throughout winter are far less likely catch colds and flu.
3. It’s always warm at KICK Learn to Swim
To keep kids and babies comfortable, we have a constant water temperature that ranges between 32-33 degrees.  This means even on gloomy winter days, it’s always a nice day for a swim!

KICK Swim Tips

Before Lesson – Get kids swim ready: Cossies & swim cap on. A swim cap is compulsory at KICK. Putting the cap on before they enter the pool prevents them from hopping out of the pool with sopping wet hair; this is especially important when it is cold outside. Keep clothes on over the swimming cossie until they are ready to get in the pool during these cooler months.

After Lesson – Have towels & hoods handy! Some parents use hooded dressing gowns that go straight over their swimmers and avoid the tricky after-swim clothing (like leggings). Sticking to loosely fitting clothes such as trackies, fleece pants or even pyjamas will also make it is easier.

Stay Positive – Yes, it can be hard to stay motivated when the weather is cold, wet and miserable. Remind yourself that making sure your kids are safe in the water is worth the effort. Besides, swimming is one of the best forms of exercise they can do and good habits set the foundation for them as they grow older.
